rats this summer

I have cats, occasional raccoons, many birds including gold finch, cardinal, mockingbird, brown thrasher...which is why I don't use "kill traps."

 For that very reason,  I always place my traps where nothing else except rats can find them.  The only accidental death I had was a squirrel and we already have too many of those around.  

Since you mentioned the abundance of birds I hope you have your hummingbird feeders ready.  They are back in the area headed South and if they do like last year they will be in he area for several weeks.

Yes, it's Hummer season.  The annual Hummingbird Migration Celebration is at the Strawberry Plains Audubon Center in Holly Springs, Mississippi on September 5-9.

I found a huge dead rat in my yard today.  I live in the Orange Zone near Willow.

If you are in my area and put out poison,  please let me know what kind you used.
