Should Dues be higher?

Posted in: Westlake
are you kiddin me!!!!

Where are our dues going to now?! I just moved in a little under a year ago. Never recieved a ''gift basket'', The walk ways along Westlake blvd are cracked up and falling apart as well as the streets, the westlake sign is horrible, the grassLESS lawns on westlake blvd is a sight to see.....I can go on and on. Maybe you are not getting any cooperation from westlakians because they dont see what thier money is accomplishing now. Try using the money we have already given to spruce up the area and then you can start mentioning an increase in the home owners dues! For right now all of my extra money is going toward ever rising gas prices at the pump.
Dues

I am not in favor of raising the dues. Outside of the entrances to Westlake being maintained, I don't see much evidence of my dues being used for anything.
We all want the same thing

Dear ''Had Enough''

I can certainly understand your concerns, and all things being equal, do not want our dues to be raised either. But I think you have reacted too strongly.

First, you mention that participation in the Association is ''minimal at best.'' What do you mean by participation? Are you a participant? I'm sure you are not criticizing all those who are not involved while not being involved yourself.

Second, according to the Bylaws, ''support'' is not needed for the board to raise the dues. No one wants to raise the dues for no reason. We all want to see Westlake ''improved,'' and if raising HOA dues would do this and would increase the value of our homes, why would anyone be opposed to that?

Third, you seem rather angry about how the Association is run. Good. We need some homeowners to start caring and get involved. So I would suggest you channel that frustration to active involvement in the association. With enough help, we CAN start seeing things really improve around here.

And that would benefit us all.

Are you volunteering?

Dear John Deere,
You make a good point. Are you willing to be a board member or an active participant in your neighborhood to help enforce some of these issues that you currently have with our neighborhood? There are not enough people to fulfill the requests that you are asking. I suggest you make the call on the lawns that are too long by calling the action center number that was posted in one of the newsletters, or call the street maintenance of Oklahoma City and request that pot holes be filled in and streets be repaired. Instead of complaining about it and expecting others to do it for you, may I suggest that YOU DO IT and stop complaining!!
