I just recieved a warning for "parking vehicle upon a public sidewalk". We have three cars in the household so we all park in the driveway with one car behind one of the other two. I really don't get what we did wrong since I thought the whole driveway was our property. If it really is a violation, i'll be happy to follow it. But that means we will have to park one of the cars along the street since the garage is full of exercise and lawn equipment. I've lived here for almost 3 years and in Tarrant county for over 20 years and i've never heard of this violation before. So I was just wondering if it really is a violation or if the code enforcement officer made a mistake. I will probably call the city when I have time but I was wondering if anyone knows about this.
Question about code violation

Yes it is a violation. When you block the sidewalk a person using that side walk then has to walk in the street making it more dangerous for said person. You do not own the side walk the city does. If it needs repairs you call the city. It is also a violation to chain your dog in the front yard. But a dalmation on Mystic has been chained for as long as I live here. The fine is up to $2000 dollars so I am guessing they have not been fined yet. The code people just pick and choose who the fine when they are out. We got fined for our trash cans for being on the side of the house. Only one on our block to be fined but when driving down said block we found 12 other houses with trash cans on the side. |

The trash cans can not be "visible" from the street. If they are visible, normally you get a warning notice and if its not corrected, you are fined. We were also "warned" about parking over the sidewalk and we were given 24 hour notice before moving our vehicle(s). If they were not moved and Code Enforcement returned, fines were posted. I have seen the code enforcement officer driving around a couple of times and it does not appear to me that she is being picky. It also may be other citizens calling Code Enforcement to complain about these violations, we have seen many times on this web site where people have complaints about neighbors/HOA issues. |

Alright thanks a lot guys. I had a chance to talk to a police officer about this issue and he said that parking that way restricts wheelchair access, which is very reasonable. I guess one of us will park our car on the street or make some room in the garage. |
