Being in the city and the hectic lives we are all running, it sure will take an effort on all of our parts; singles, retirees, and especially parents, to make this neighborhood a pleasant place to live and raise kids. Regarding our youth and parenting of Farley, I would like to ''air'' a positive note. I would like to encourage you to be positive to the kids of Farley, say hello to them as they are our neighbors! As they are ''wandering around'', ask what's going on around here...make small talk and let them know they are respected and welcomed, (you can learn alot about who's who and what's going on!).
I would also like to encourage a work ethic amongst us homeowners. As a mom, wanting my kids to know the value of hardwork and its pay, I would like to know that when my pre-teen is wanting a few bucks, that he could actually get a positive response to his requests to shovel drives, bag leaves, or cut grass. I was shocked when no one could ''invest'' in our youth and allow them to learn the rewards of a good job (or downside to a poor one), and the lessons from working for someone other than mom or dad. (I would even offer the pay, just for my child to get the experience!) Please dont assume these kids are trouble but ask yourselves how can you invest in these young lives, the pay-offs are more valuable and knowing that you can call 911 when ''they'' do wrong. We do have some over-worked parents and unsupervised BORED kids, I ask you to consider creative, positive ways of helping the situation and I would be glad to head up any worthwhile effort. I also want to encourage you, that I and many other parents I know, do want to know if our kids are doing wrong. I trust you to find out who the parent is and to be sure to inform them of anything their child does wrong. (and of course any good reports are welcomed!)
Yes you will run into the ''Not my son!'' or ''What is to you?'' but there are plenty of us who welcome your involvement and assistance in letting our kids know there are consequences and that we are all here working together! Thank you for your efforts in making this a neighborhood my children can have good memories of and learn valuable lessons from people who care. I know living as though we are in Mayberry is too much to ask for but let's give it our best!
Sincerely,
A Farley Mom
