Firecrackers and Rockets in Farl

Posted in: Farley
I live at 6901 West 13th Street. There is a wooded area at the end of 13th Street where youngsters gather to set off firecrackers. The only address I could get was Marsha Avenue when I confronted six to nine of them last night. It was not a happy meeting! One particularly foul-mouthed girl seemed to be the leader.
Officer Barnes suggested I take this up with the association.
Firecrackers & Rockets in Farley

Bruce: I am at a loss to explain Officer Barnes remark about taking up this issue with Farley Neighborhood Association. Fireworks are illegal, although we all know people will use them and will continue to use them unless they are arrested, fined, etc. by a police entity.

Our association has no legal jurisdiction over our residents and since we have no covenants, we cannot force residents to abide by any rule...we can only report city-county violations to the proper agency. You did that, and unfortunately received an inappropriate answer.

I will call our neighborhood contact at Marion County Sheriff's Dept and ask that this location be watched and will also report the inappropriate response to your report of a violation.

NOTE: Parents of children under the age of 18 years can be held responsible for their children's violations and any nuisance matters. You shuld know where your children are and what they are doing....it is your parental duty.

Kids will be kids. Maybe time to move to a retirement home.
Kid Will be Kids??

Yes, kids will be kids unfortunately parents are not always parenting!

It's not about kids being kids, it's about lack of respect and lack of adult supervision in a dangerous situation.
No matter what age...kids or senior citizens, respect should be given. Mr. Hammon apparently was concerned about the situation but received harsh words from the kids. Come on, parents....do you know where your kids are and what they are doing? Do you care?

Im not an old person and not nearly ready for a retirement home, but I am concerned that Farley is deemed the one of worst Westside areas for roaming teenagers causing problems....along with Mars Hill. Makes me wonder what will be the next comparison.
