Interlaken Neighborhood Association Newsletter #3 October 31, 2004
=====================================================================
HAPPY HALLOWEEN and welcome to the 2nd annual Interlaken Fall Festival. Here?’s hoping you have each recovered from the hurricanes that wracked our state and neighborhood. The landscape may have changed but the high spirit of the neighborhood remains. No storm can take that from us.
Our Park ?– A group of neighbors, Boy Scout troop 565 and a crew from the city gathered on Saturday, October 9 at Interlaken Park for a clean-up party. The park had been hit hard by the hurricanes and badly needed the attention. Troop 565 also cleaned and assembled the picnic tables that are now park residents. This effort was coordinated by Ryan Craig as part of his Eagle Scout project. Thanks to Ryan and everyone involved in putting our park back together.

New officers ?– The INA board of directors will present a slate of potential officers for the membership?’s consideration. Nominations will also be accepted from the floor. Additionally, there are board member openings. Please consider lending your time and talent to help your neighborhood association most effectively represent everyone.

Bud Strang ?– Bud has served as the first president of INA and will be handing the gavel over soon. Bud?’s attention to detail and willingness to give his time has the Association on track and he will be missed. Please express your appreciation to Bud for a job well done.

Blocking alleys - The navigable alleys in our neighborhood are often used to access back yards by owners or to access utilities for service. Please do not block alley entrances or exits.

More than 140 folks showed up on Thursday, October 21 at Christy?’s Sundown Restaurant to pay respects and see longtime INA neighbor Nick Christy be presented his second key to the city and receive the Greater Winter Haven Chamber of Commerce President's Award of Recognition. Mr. Christy opened his restaurant in 1952 and has been a fixture in Winter Haven ever since. His familiar ?“how ya doin?’??” has greeted everyone who has dined there. An INA salute goes out to Mr. Christy.

Congratulations to Maryly VanLeer Peck on becoming the current and first president of Winter Haven Rotary. Among many accomplishments, Ms. Peck is the former president of Polk Community College. Always a trendsetter, we salute this neighbor.

George and Mary Jane King ?– kudos and many thanks to this hard-working couple who not only keep a lovely yard of their own but also maintain the triangle at the intersection of Howard Terrace and 8th Street. They also spent hours cutting and hauling brush from the alley behind their home. Thank you George and Mary Jane.
