Re: New 3-way stop north of the new causeway bridge on Fountainebleau Rd.
Al,
I would like to have some support in stopping the proposed 3 way stop that is to be added on the north end of the new bridge and Mary Mahoney. This stop is to slow the traffic going across the bridge. I believe the only people that it will effectively slow down are the drivers that are following the speed limit in the first place. The speeder will certianly speed up again once the slow down for the 3way stop. I say slow down because even now many only slow down for the 4way stop at the old bypass road. Why punish everyone when enforcement of the existing speed limits is the answer. There is less chance of an accident on the bridge than anywhere on the road to Hwy 57 because there are no cars coming in from side road entrances or residences.
I believe there are better ways to spend the thousands of dollars that it will take to install the stop when the real answer is enforcement of the law in the first place. This proposed stop is like making the drawbridge stop light (between Ocean Spring and Biloxi, Hyw 90) a permanent blinking red to try to slow the traffic, or perhaps they should add stop lights to Hwy 10 to get the traffic to slow to the speed limit. If the cars speed down your street like they do mine then you know it is a problem of enforcement, not putting in more stop signs. If you drive in St Andrews at the posted speed of 25 you will have traffic stacked up behind you. Without enforcement, people will speed with a stop or not.
Thanks for the opportunity to listen to my opinion.
