Mayor's Neighborhood Matching Grants Program
PURPOSE:
The Mayor?’s Neighborhood Matching Grants Program (MNMG) is designed to give assistance to specific neighborhood projects that build relationships and enhance the community. As part of the city?’s continued efforts to improve and strengthen Jacksonville neighborhoods, Mayor John Delaney will propose to the City Council during the Fiscal Year 2000-2001 budget cycle an appropriation of $200,000 for projects that will promote stronger and healthier neighborhoods. If authorized, the funds will become available October 1, 2000. .
WHO IS ELIGIBLE:
Any neighborhood association, civic organization or committee that has been in existence for at least six (6) months prior to the application date and is located within Duval County is eligible.
GRANT AMOUNT AND ACCESS TO DOLLARS:
The total amount allocated for this program is $200,000. An applicant may apply for up to $5,000. Matching funds must equal or exceed the amount of the funds requested through the program. Once the grant is awarded a contract with the City of Jacksonville is signed, an invoice or receipt for the appropriate amount must be presented to the Neighborhood Services Division and the City will issue a check to the organization.
PROJECT RECIPIENTS MUST:
Plant or cause to be planted ten trees for every $1,000 awarded.
Address a need that benefits the neighborhood.
Spend allocated funds within the specified fiscal year (October 1, 2000 through September 30, 2001).
Report all other sources of funds used for the proposed project, including the amount of funds and how the funds will be used.
Include at least 25% volunteer hours for the total project. Volunteer labor will be valued at $10 hour for the purpose of calculating the match.
Execute a contract with the City prior to receiving approved funds (Example: 25% of a $5,000 matching grant would require $1,250 or 125 volunteer hours).
Involve neighborhood residents directly in all phases.
Appoint an accountable individual to administer the grant.
Have a tax identification number.
Secure a plan review and permit from City Hall for any work in the city right-of-way.
Be able to complete the project without the assistance of the City of Jacksonville.
Have a bank account.
