Our Neighborhood appeared before the Land Use & Zoning Subcommittee of the City Council on March 15th to fight zoning exception E-00-149, an exception that would allow a 200-seat restaurant/bar that serves all alcoholic beverages for on-premises consumption just 35 feet from our neighborhood.
Our Neighborhood believed that this restaurant/bar would have a detrimental impact on our health, welfare and safety, and would considerably increase noise, crime and visual blight in the area.
Neighbor Lisa Carroll, along with Trisha Gercken, worked diligently to oppose this establishment, and were victorious at the hearing on March 15.
We won!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very special thanks to Lisa Carroll, who sacrificed over 6 months of her life, time, energy and resources to fight for the integrity of our neighborhood.
Special thanks also to Valerie Britt, Citizen Advocate, who volunteered her time, money & wisdom to helping us prepare the winning case.
Thanks to all of the members of our association who bravely stood before the Council and spoke on behalf of the neighborhood.
Thanks to Gerry Noon of State Farm; Dr. David Weiss, Pediatrician; Russ & Kaye Robbins of Cliff's Bar & Grill; Pastor Ricky Powell of Ft. Caroline Baptist Church; The District 2 Citizens Planning Advisory Committee Chair and Vice Chair; Clay Yarborough; and Carol Schirado of Greater Arlington Civic Council; who all worked together to help us oppose this exception.
Last but not least, thanks to our City Council Members,
Lynette Self, Suzanne Jenkins, Gwen Yates, Lake Ray and Mary Ann Southwell...who showed us that our voices can be heard.
