E-mail To Mayor Delaney

Dear Sir:
This is in reference to your 1998-1999 Budget Message, which is posted on my NeighborhoodLink web page. In reading the message, I am struck by the statement "why we - for the first time in a
systematic fashion - funded needed stormwater drainage projects; ".
I have lived in Jacksonville for 26 years, and well remember the 5cents per gallon gasoline tax applied in 1982 or 1983 "For Drainage Projects". We both can appreciate the amount of money that has been collected over 17 years on every gallon of gasoline sold in
Duval County !! It begs the question - "Where has it gone ??"Now, a new 1/2 cent Sales Tax is "needed" to re-build roads, drainage systems, and other projects. I propose that the $2 Billion required come from a source that is not a new tax, or lower the sights on the amount "Required". I for one, as well as many of my friends and acquaintances, do not believe that Jacksonville Government is doing the best possible job of spending the present revenue - witness the recent hundreds of thousands of dollars in undeposited checks found .
Yours Very Truly,

I'd be most interested in hearing what the HWCA Members think. . . . . .
