Neighborhood Meeting - March 6, 2008

Opening:

The regular meeting of the Jefferson Cort Civic Association was called to order at 7:00PM on Thursday, March 6, 2008 in Parish Voting Precinct on Countryside Lane by Hank Levenson.

A. Approval of Agenda

President, Hank Levenson called the meeting to order and immediately progressed through the agenda.

B. Open Issues

• Rear entrance has been permanently closed and the culvert removed. This should reduce any safety or security concerns.

• The new development on General Ott will not tie-in the Jefferson Cort. The developers will move forward with developing this property independently from Jefferson Cort but will keep the building standards similar to Jefferson Cort to help our property values.

• The abandoned car has been removed.

• The light has been installed at the front of the subdivision.

• Only one stump remains to be ground. All designated trees have been cut by the parish with the exception of one which is too tall for their machinery. We opted to leave this at this time.

C. New Business

• Resident is our Phase 5 representative who is spearheading the front entrance beautification process. Here are a few ideas he has suggested. The association is looking for volunteers to help with this effort.

i. Use a 3 phase approach with phase one cleaning and pressure washing the columns and signs

ii. Phase 2 – paint the pillars and repaint the rod iron

iii. Phase 3 – landscape with shrubs and flowers and add mulch.

The suggestion of landscape lighting was mentioned, perhaps solar lights that will not require constant maintenance and attention. These would also be paid for with the additional monies collected.

A special thanks to Bobby Cortez for arranging and organizing the tree cutting and stump grinding.

• A resident has graciously donated Spanish cedar wood which will be used for a new Jefferson Cort sign to be mounted on the pillars at the entrance of the subdivision.

• Committees – the association is looking for volunteers for various committees. So far, 13 people have volunteered through the survey and an additional 2 during the meeting.

• Survey results – Daphne reviewed the results on the projector and there were a few handouts. Survey revealed that there were 79 visits to the site but only 52 completed the survey. These numbers are a good start but disappointing based on the amount of homes in our subdivision.

• Top concerns of the survey were safety and preserving the neighborhood. There seems to be some safety issues on Forest with some petty theft of yard ornaments and porch furniture and decorations.

• Safety concerns will be addressed when the board meets with the Sheriff’s office for statistics in our neighborhood related to different crimes within the past six months. The goal is to meet with the Sheriff’s office on a monthly basis for current updates.

• Restrictions are still being consolidated from each of the phases. They will be posted to the website within the next two weeks for the residents to review and provide feedback. The association encourages feedback.

• Lots of concern on how to enforce the restrictions and how to communicate that Jefferson Cort is a restricted neighborhood. The association will discuss at next board meeting.

• The bylaws were filed with the Secretary of State which will be verified.
