Jefferson Heights Association

President Update

President Corner,

JH community- it?’s been 32 months are more than 2 ?½ years since I organized the Jefferson Heights Association with the City of San Antonio Planning Department in July 2002. It?’s been a long hard battle and it?’s taken lots of resources to get us to this point where we now see new sidewalks, streets maintenance, street reconstruction, improved bus transportation, rehabilitation of our housing stock, park improvements, property value increase, and a better quality of life for us all.

We all desire a better quality of life and a safer community free of crime and other solicit activities, which we know will reduce our ability to sustain life for generations to come. On the front of this flier is important numbers for contact if you see any issues, which concerns you, your family, your friends, and/ or your neighbors. However, for any and all emergencies call 911 but you can call your SAFFE Officer Ovalle or his Supervisor Sgt. Middleton at the numbers on the front of this flier. Now, if you notice crime and any criminal activity in our community you are encouraged to call SAPD or any Law Enforcement Officer and you do not have to leave your name or have an Officer come to your home! Remember, there is a Gang Injunction in place around us, which will have an adverse consequence on the Jefferson Heights community!

There is an increase in Drug Activity, Prostitution, Truancy, Juvenile Crimes, Graffiti, Burglaries, Thefts, and etc. in and around the Jefferson Heights community. Remember, most of the time it is someone we know that is a participant in these crimes and we must not become a safe haven for crime activity. Therefore, when crime presents itself we can do something about it by calling either our SAFFE Officer Ovalle @ 219-8563 or call Captain Andersen Eastside Substation @ 207-7781 or call SAPD Non-Emergency @ 207-7273.

Remember, for all Medical Emergencies and Emergencies always dial 911 and for any other city issue(s) call 311 for inoperable vehicles, weeded lots, illegal dumping, basketball goals on the streets or sidewalks, unleashed animals, loud noise, multiple families in a single dwelling house, open abandoned houses, parking on the front lawn, yard storage, garage sales, pot holes, or any issue for immediate address. People we have got to become more concerned about our community, our neighbors, and it will take efforts on all our parts.

While we continue to face new challenges in additional areas like water and air quality, transportation and infrastructure, new taxes and rate increases, lack of economic development, environmental justice, and advocating for our fair share of expendable dollars in our Jefferson Heights community; it will take each of us standing together to accomplish our quality of life goals.
