My daughter's name is Ashley, a seven year old second grader in KISD. She is currently residing in two of KISD's school zones, Hayes, and Memorial Parkway, both in KISD. She has been going to Hayes this school year where her nanny resides so that there is care for her 24 hours a day. There are NO 24 hour daycare providers in Memorial Parkway's school zone. The principal of Hayes called me at work on Friday September 8th and told me that I had to withdraw her from their school by Monday. She had to miss school on Monday and they have now given us to Friday September 15th to rectify this problem.
To give you some background, my husband and I are civil servants, WORKING IN EMS to provide medical care to those in need 24 hours a day. I work for Fort Bend County EMS as a paramedic in which part of KISD resides. Due to our profession we have to have care for our two children 24 hours a day 15 or more days a month. We have a nanny that we know and trust with our children and not only rent a room from her for our babies, but have given her Power of Attorney over them for medical and school purposes.
For the past few days my husband, my mother, and I have taken off work to resolve this issue for the wellbeing of Ashley and to my dismay I have encountered several KISD administative staff that have suggested the following:
1. I quit my job.(''I chose to be a parent so you should quit your job-----we did not do this to you''
2. I home school my child.(whom has reading difficulties and needs special instruction)
3. I follow children from their buses (from Memorial Parkway Elementary) in the afternoon to their houses and ask their parents to watch my children overnight 15 days a month.
None of these outlandish suggestions are feasable or even realistic. My husband and I researched 24 hour daycares to the fullest extent when we purchased our home---our first home-----June 15th, 2006. We also have been honest with the school from the first day. I keep telling them that we are talking about a seven year old little girl whom is now fearful everyday she goes to school that her principal is going to kick her out as was done September 11, 2006. Her education and safety are of the utmost importance to us. We as parents just want her and her brother to be able to sleep safe at nights, with a trusted adult, while we as EMS care for the community, and all in all she gets her education!!!!!!!
If anyone has any suggestions for us about transportation from the nanny in Hayes school zone to Memorial Parkway and back afterschool, or any suggestions, please let me know. I really appreciate any assistance in this matter.
