Summer is showing signs of many vegetable gardeners in Lockwood neighborhood. For next spring we can start a community garden which will include neighbors who have greenhouses, which are allowed in our backyards. Barbara Moore has a non profit - Harvest Mountain , which is about helping start community gardens and urban farms all over the metro area. We can have some classes on how to build a small greenhouse out of used materials for a very low cost. Then you can grow vegetables and herbs and fruits all year long. We have great yard sizes in Lockwood and we have opportunities to work with our local schools to help teach our children how to grow local food. Go to www.meetup.com/harvestmountain to see what steps you would take to find property in our neighborhood to have a community garden on possibly property owned by unicorporated jefferson county. Perhaps a business would want to allow a land use agreement so we can grow organic vegetables together.
