History of Lackland Terrace Neighborhood.
In 1956 Census Tract 1718 was a productive farmland whose early owners were the Hausmans, Jones, and Reyes, with corn being the productive cash crop for the area. In the late 1950's the separate families decided to sell some of the land to developers and the community of Lackland Terrace was established. Lackland Terrace was built primarily to serve the neighboring Lackland Air Force Base personnel. In 1961 building soon began and Lackland Plaza Mall, the second oldest mall in the Westside next to Las Palmas, opened. Lackland Air Force Base became the economic base for the community.
