The IACP/Bank of America partnership has several summer season precautions to help prevent identity crime:
Amusement Parks
Rides are fun so take the worry out of losing your identity at the park. Make sure your personal information (wallet, credit cards, purse, etc.) is secure in a pocket or, better yet, left in a more protected environment.
Picnics
Vehicles should never be considered a secure location for personal identification. NO matter the weather, secure your vehicle or take your identity items with you.
Working Vacation
Make sure the data on your computer is encrypted and the information on the screen is not visible to strangers. Secure your computer when not in use.
Casual Dress
This summer season, be conscious of your casual clothing. Loose fitting clothing may be cool but it is certainly not a secure way to protect your personal identification.
Beach
Find a better place than under your towel or in your shoe to secure your personal information. Include identity safety in your plans - what personal identification do you need to bring and where will it be secure? Best practice tells us to safeguard those items at your hotel or other such location.
Boating
Not everyone is your friend when you are out boating, so make sure to have a secure area on your boat for valuables. your loss of identity could cost more than the boat.
You may also visit www.IDSafety.org for more information provided by the International Association of Chiefs of Police, who has partnered with Bank of America in this effort.
