RE:                   City of Lake Worth Quiet Zone Establishment

On June 7, 2010, the City of Lake Worth received formal notification from CSX Transportation that a Quiet Zone would be established at the CSX Railroad intersections of 17th Avenue North, 7th Avenue North, Lake Worth Road, 6th Avenue South, and 12th Avenue South effective June 17th 2010 at 12:01 a.m.

Despite proper notification, train horns continue to sound at previously mentioned CSX Railroad intersections. The City of Lake Worth properly notified all involved parties, including the Federal Railroad Association, Florida Department of Transportation, Florida East Coast Railway, AMTRAK, South Florida Regional Transportation Authority, Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, and West Palm Beach Police Department that the Quiet Zone is formally established.

In an effort to track and further notify the appropriate parties, City Staff has begun tracking Quiet Zone infractions to report findings to both CSX and the Florida Department of Transportation. It is hoped that the City’s tracking process will aid in the efficient enforcement of the established railroad intersection quiet zones.  Residents are invited to email train infraction data including the date, time, engine number (if known), and train direction (if known) to City of Lake Worth Project Manager, John Lamb, at jlamb@lakeworth.org.

The City of Lake Worth is committed to ensuring the recently established Quiet Zone is adhered to and enforced. For additional information on this process, contact John Lamb at 561-586-1720.
