homeowner's insurance

Posted in: Historic Old Northeast
I am a long-time HONNA resident in a 1915 house continuously insured by Nationwide for more than a decade, but non-renewed as of January 31, 2007. Is anyone other than Citizen's writitng in the neighborhood? We have never had a claim and are not in a flood zone. I believe we are in the ''E'' (last) evacuation zone, or in the white (non-evacuation) zone

Good luck....

Patrick,

I've been non-renewed twice in two years. I'm also in a non-eval zone in a 1920 house.

Last year I spent weeks making phone calls and came up with only two options: Citizen and a non-bonded agency. The non-bonded agency non-renewed this year and I had only one choice: Citizens.

The few other insurers writing policies would only write if we already carried other lines with them...and they wouldn't take us even if we transferred our business to them.

It seems to be conventional wisdom now that if you live in a house built more than 50 years ago (ie., before 1955), you will have no choice but Citizens.
