Hello Neighbors! Happy AUTUMN !!
Don?’t miss our LHNA
6th Annual PUMPKINS IN THE PARK PICNIC
Sat., October 20
11 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
at the Tietze Park Pavilion !!
Come & go as you want, but be sure to join us on this great day of fun for all who live in Lakewood Heights !! Our neighbors to the west in the Lower Greenville Neighborhood Association will be joining in the fun too!!
Just in time for Halloween, we will have our traditional pumpkin patch with parent-supervised pumpkin carving for older kids and pumpkin decorating for the younger set. (Mom & Dad: Don?’t worry too much about the mess of pumpkin cleaning ?– we have dedicated souls who arrive early to get many of the pumpkins ready for carving!! But you know ?– it will still be messy).
Pumpkins will be available for sale as well. So support your neighborhood and buy yours at the picnic for a great price!! The picnic is free, donations are welcomed.
But Wait! There's More!
Calling all wanna-be chefs and chili concoctioners: Start dreaming up your picnic entry for the
2nd Annual CHILI COOK-OFF !
And we?’ve added a new contest: a COOKIE BAKE-OFF (or cookie bars) for those with a flair for desserts and a little neighborly competition !!
There will be terrific prizes for Best All-around, 2nd place, & ?“Most Creative?” for both food categories?– Not to mention BRAGGING RIGHTS!
To enter the chili cook-off, bring your warm, fully-prepared, favorite chili concoction in your pot or crock pot to Tietze Park by 11am for set-up. (A few warming trays will be available. Bring yours if you have one. Thanks!). Cookie contestants should have their entries at the picnic by 11am as well. Be sure to make a big batch so that we can serve small portions to picnic goers, since tasting and voting will be enjoyed by all picnic attendees. Judging will begin at 11:30 am. Decisions by 3pm.
Our City Council Rep. Angela Hunt and State Representative Allen Vaught will join us and serve as our honorary head judges!!
Last year we had a lot of fun tasting all the chili entries that varied from traditional, old-time family recipes to veggie chili. Can?’t wait for new ideas this year, a crazy ingredient or two, or time-honored recipies! Stuart Stegall on Lakeshore won both Best All-Around and Creative last year with a veggie chili (no kidding!) ?– so he?’s the one to beat!!
And, as you know all of us in Lakewood Heights LOVE cookies and cookie bar treats, so enter your secret weapon and become the new neighborhood favorite!!
Along with PUMPKINS for sale, we will have a raffle for great prizes ?– including yet another original PAT GALVIN QUILT CREATION ! Pat?’s quilts have quite the history at Pumpkins in the Park. They have a wonderful fall theme and are always the item folks long for! She has promised another beautiful hand-made lap quit this year! Raffle tickets for all the items are ONLY $1 each and help defray the costs of the event. Come support Lakewood Heights !!
So, join all of us NEXT SATURDAY at the TIETZE PARK PAVILION for great neighbor-meeting, chili tasting, cookie eating, pumpkin carving and decorating for all ages, and the ever-popular raffle! SEE YOU THERE !
