Ballymeade Fire #1 Youtube
Listen to the comments made by bystanders. There apparently was a delay in reporting and/or dispatching this daytime fire. Thanks to all the volunteers who responded and extinguished this blaze but...............................................................................
the fact remains there is a fire station just 1/2 mile away from the neighborhood and no apparatus responded from this location on the day of the inferno. The first responding engine came from the Claymont Fire Station on Philadelphia Pike - approximately 3 miles away and the second engine from Talleyville on Concord Pike - 4 miles away. Why is the Claymont substation on the corner of Naamans and Marsh Rds. not being utilized as it was intended ?
Claymont recently spent over 5 million dollars on a new fire station on the Philadelphia Pike but continues to allow the substation to lie dormant- it's right across the street from your neighborhood of Lancashire. Call the New Castle County Executive's office and get an answer.
