You'll be pleased to learn that the Board of Directors has been busily working on behalf of homeowners since our July Quarterly Meeting. Among the issues brought to their attention that have received immediate action are:
1) Street Lights Out -- The JEA was contacted and repairs were made to 4 street lights in Laurel Springs as well as one of the main street lights on Kernan Blvd. that marks the entrance to Kernan Lakes. For future reference, the Board when made aware will continue to report outages to the JEA. It would be EXTREMELY helpful if homeowners reporting a problem make sure to include their address and the POLE NUMBER, which is designated on every street light.
2) BellSouth Removal of Laurel Springs Fence -- The problem has been reported to BellSouth, with a request that they coordinate their onsite inspection with at least one member of the Board. As Laurel Springs was growing during new home construction, BellSouth ripped out a substantial section of our community fence on Alden Road toward Walkers Glen, leaving a gaping hole. Their equipment has now become an attractive nuisance for children and teen skateboarders. The Board is working with BellSouth to reach an acceptable solution, both for the replacement of the fence and also restricting access from the Walkers Glen side.
3) Laurel Springs/Kernan Blvd. Common Fence -- The Board heard a number of comments about the condition of the fence along Kernan Boulevard and immediately made a thorough inspection. There are areas where the fence is leaning, either due to posts shifting over time because they were not originally stablized with cement or possibly because of children hoisting themselves over it. The Board is now reviewing several contractors' bids for repairing the Laurel Springs side of the Kernan Boulevard community fence. In conjunction with the repair and, hopefully, the pressure washing and painting with a grant from the Mayor's program, the Board and property owners adjacent to the fence will pursue landscaping measures as deterents to future fence climbing.
