At the August meeting of the District 2 CPAC, the Neighborhoods Department reported that they had received 72 grant applications, totaling $258,000. Since the proposed grant budget is $250,000, there will most likely be some application amounts that are either scaled back or denied.
Laurel Springs has not yet received word on whether or not our application has been approved for funds from the 2003-2004 grant program. The application is for two separate, stand-alone projects -- one is for monies to help offset the cost of painting the common grounds fence on the Laurel Springs side of Kernan and Alden Roads, and the second is for funds to landscape the 45 groupings of unsightly utility boxes located throughout our community.
Preference for grants is given to neighborhoods that are registered with the City's Neighborhoods Department, which Laurel Springs is. Our neighborhood will be notified by October concerning whether or not our application has been accepted. If successful, look for an announcement and details in a special issue of the Community Times early this Fall.
