District Cuts Classrooms Before School Opens

Dec 20, 1998

Even though voters approved a bond issue for a new high school for 1,250 students, the new school is not being built for 1,250 students. District staff and the architect confirmed that four classrooms have been cut and 1/2 a gym has been eliminated from the plans.

As advised by Leyden Creek Community Group members, the budget was short for constructing the school to meet the needs of the 1,250 students. The bid opening for construction of the new school came in approximately
$2 million over budget. That does not include road or other off site improvements.

To cut costs district plans at this time include, reduced number of parking spaces and delay of improvements until after the school is built.

If you have concerns, please call Arvada City Council and/or Jefferson County Public Schools. Plans for annexation by the City of Arvada are proceeding.
