Stop Tree Removal on Silverlake

Posted in: Silver Lake
I recently sent this email to Councilman Garcetti:

Dear Mr. Councilman,

According to a posted sign, the city street tree bureau intends to remove a large and stately old oak tree---and possibly two or three others adjacent to it---in front of 2366 Silverlake Blvd. This is at the intersection of Armstrong, near the curve just south of Glendale Blvd.

The city is now replacing the sidewalk in that area. It has already trimmed back and removed the roots that caused the damage to the old sidewalk and has leveled out the ground near the trees. Why does it need to remove this tree?

You well know that large shade trees are critical to the environmental sustainability of the city, as well as to the attractiveness and economic health of communities. There is no good reason to remove that tree, nor the ones nearby.

I strongly urge you to order the bureau to stop the removal of the tree. I will be copying this message to your staff and other concerned community members. Thanks for your time and consideration of this request.
