speed tables

Well it isn't more than a week since the neighborhood meeting and the issue of speed bumps/tables on Palms Bl. in the block east of Lincoln was brought up in a committee.
Last night a van driven by some out-of-control neer-do-well barrelled down the street, totalling a car parked in front of my house which bashed into the van behind it and then the driver carreened over to the other side of the street hitting a parked SUV with a passenger in it who had just stopped to make a phone call in a safe quiet neighborhood. NEED I SAY MORE?!!
We NEED speed bumps on Palms Bl. between Lincoln and Penmar. The last time this very same thing happened was to my car parked in front of the neighbor's house on Thanksgiving, 99. It's a matter of time before someone gets killed crossing the street.
What say all of you?

This is definitely a problem that needs to be looked into for a number of areas in the Mar Vista area. Palms is real narrow down by where you are but I have seen people drive like idiots just the same. Palms is also bad speedwise even as it opens up past Beethoven until you hit Centinela. My biggest gripe is Rose Ave. where I live. It is used as a throughfare from Bundy down to I think the Lincoln Blvd. area. Anyways, they are not locals and they go damn fast.
Speed bumps are in order here too.

Speeding Traffic on Walgrove

The Walgrove Area Action Group (WAAG), led by Nancy Swaim, has been pushing for controlling the speed of traffic along Walgrove for some time. The group keeps a log of accidents on Walgrove and has held meetings with engineers of the LA Dept of Transportation. It succeeded in getting new School Crossing signs put up and new white lines put down. The lines are intended to help slow drivers down. When WANA is properly organized, we will be represented on the Venice Traffic Movement Committee as an association. This community/LA Dept of Transportation committee meets in the City office building at Manchester/Lincoln during business hours on an irregular basis, when called by LA DOT.

Personally, I like speed tables. These are already installed on Walgrove, S of Venice Bl. and I would like to also have them on Walgrove, N of Venice Bl.

I suggest you send an ''Information Request'' and a ''Petition Request'' to City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation, Neighborhood Traffic Management Section, Speed Hump Program, 221 N. Figuroa Street, Suite 300, Los Angeles, CA 90012, for your own education as well as for bringing it to the next meeting of the Streets and Traffic Committee (during the General Meeting on 10-2-01, if not before.)

Speed Bumps

We live on Dewey Street, and it is also used as a throughfare, between Bundy and Walgrove. People drive up and down our residential street in excess of 50 m.p.h.!

I complained to the Pacific Division of LAPD. The did a speed survey and then raised the speed limit to 30 from 25. Their reasoning was that they could now use radar more effectively. Since then, they never have used radar yet, and that was 2 years ago.

Speed bumps will not be used by the city if the street is on a hill. Also, they create more noise for the residents directly adjacent to them. Overall I'm for them, but I think better monitoring by the police would be even more effective, it's just a matter of getting them to come out and write a few tickets a day!
