''friends of Silverlake''

Posted in: Silver Lake
Dear Neighbors,
In the LA Times on Saturday 30 August 03, in the business section, the article was about how Walmart was seeking a petition drive to subvert the normal city planning process a development must go through to build a large development.
It seems to me that this is also being done here uner the 'Friends of Silver Lake'. The link appears under community hotlinks.
Another item that this group indorses is a casino in the area.
My discussion would be
1. Do we want to see a Walmart in the area? If we do, should they go through the normal prceedures?
2. Does support the Indians automatically mean a casino?
3. Does the hotlink on the neighborhood council web page mean support for this group?

On the last item..

Hi Rachael:

I can address the last question you posed because I launched this website. The Community Links are an open part of this website in that community members can add their ideas and information directly without moderation or editorial control (other than common sense.) I have not deleted any links or pages submitted by members of the community in order that it can be a communications tool for all. Your perspective and questions on the Walmart matter are all important issues to discuss and consider. Best wishes.

Re: Walmart et al

Hi, Rachael,

My reply to the question, ''Do we want a Walmart?'' is threefold: ''no, no and no''.

The upcoming attempt on the part of the City of L.A. to ''update the Community Plan'' has important implications with respect to the impending ''attack of the killer corporations''.

Please reply to this email and I will explain what I mean in the above paragraph.

Carol
