  • Respect-O-Meter: Respected Neighbor

August 25, 2010

Dear Friends and Supporters,

On August 17, 2010, the Fire Department and various other departments from the County of Los Angeles came to the New Life Christian Home and cited various areas of concern regarding building, safety, and zoning.

A few days later the New Life Home was closed and the New Life ministry was forced to find emergency shelter for the men and women in our program at a days notice.

Over the past 28 years, Fire Department officials have come to the home on a regular basis to do routine inspections and no concerns as to zoning, building, and safety were ever mentioned.

New Life Christian Home has been a presence in the Antelope Valley for close to 30 years. It has provided shelter and rehabilitation into society for thousands of men and women. Countless lives have been salvaged through the intervention of the New Life Christian Home. The group home offers rehabilitation to men and women seeking recovery from drugs, alcohol, mental health issues, and homelessness. In the atmosphere of a Christian Home Program the men and women can discover the possibilities of a new and fulfilling way of life with Jesus Christ at the center of their life

At present, the future of New Life Christian Home for Men and Women is uncertain. The cost of bringing the home up to codes will be extensive. The ministry has always depended on the donations and kindness of others to survive simply on a day to day basis. How we will gather the funding for this endeavor remains to be seen.

A main factor that concerns the survival of the home, is obtaining the necessary zoning permits to operate at its location. It seems ironic that the home has managed to function harmoniously with its neighbors for the past 28 years without any such permit. Only now at this present moment, the home is being required to obtain a zoning permit. The cost of this permit is over $8,000.

In addition, there will be many costs involved in bringing the home’s electrical, plumbing and interior structure up to code. The main costs involved will be pulling permits and inspections. God willing a licensed contractor, electrician, plumber, and someone to draw floor plans/blueprints will come forward to volunteer services and assist the ministry in that area. Skilled laborers have already begun to offer assistance to perform the physical labor.

In the near future we will also need the support of the community in approving the zoning permit.

We hope that you and your congregations will keep us in your prayers

May God Bless You for Your Attention and Support.
