Schnitzelburg landlord

Gary,
Harry & I have several rental properties in Germantown, most in Schnitzelburg. We are committed to the neighborhood and to our tenants. We want to do our part to assure safety, cleanliness, and neighborhood friendliness. We will be joining SACC as business members. Look for us at the monthly meetings which we will try to attend. We both travel in our ''day jobs'' and therefore might miss some meetings.

Car Break-Ins in Germantown

My neighbor (on Reasor Ave.) and I have each been victims of car break-ins in the last six months. Fortunately, no damage was done to either vehicle. The perpetrator only took CDs from my vehicle. I have another neighbor on Lydia whose passenger window was smashed and a laptop was stolen from their vehicle.

What is really disturbing is that a police officer lives nearby and parks her car on the street - practically in view of the vehicles that were broken into. Also, these petty criminals seem to be striking fairly early in the evening. I consider this a very bold move.

Are these crimes being committed by people living nearby, or are people coming to Germantown from other areas specifically to steal things?

This has become a real problem. How can we make our streets safer? I like that one can safely walk around our neighborhood at all hours, but this begs the question ''who else is roaming our streets?''

What measures can we take to make Germantown/Schnitzelburg less crime-friendly?

Thank you!

Car Break-ins

Car break-ins where discussed at the November SACC meeting. Officer Shane Justis had statistics showing locations and number of incidents in the Schnitzelburg area. He encouraged all of us to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Reminding us to keep cars locked and not have any thing of value that is visible in the car. Information to contact Officer Justis is listed in the SACC Newsletter (on-line) under Neighborhood Contacts. Each incident needs to be reported, regardless of the value of the items stolen.
