top trees at Iroquois look-outs

Posted in: Beechmont
Wouldn't it be great to go to Iroquois Park look-outs and Actually See the view? I can remember a time when the view from the top was spectacular. My friends and I would go to the look-outs and play games about what-was-where. The problem is the tree tops. The trees could be topped without damage. Actually, topping the trees would encourage fuller growth instead of taller growth. I long for the return, of what was, the most breathtaking view of The City of Louisville. The look-outs atop Iroquois Park. That is the first place I take my out-of-town company. At dusk, there is no better sight to behold.

top trees

Ihave been told there is a reason why the trees are not being topped. This from arborisists who are charged with the restoraion and preservation of the park. You need to talk to John Stokowski, arborist with metro parks. Maybe he can exp;ain it better than I can. All I know is that they need to get to a certain height for the trimming to be productive. The format is different than the one used in the past and renders a better cover.

Preserve nature

There is a piece on the Iroquois watch dog presonal page where the writer talks about the fun of leaving the designated path and tramping through the woods. Are you aware that Iroquois is a 10,000 year old forest with rare and PROTECTED plant life growing on the forest floor. How could you be a nature lover and propose the things you do? Why do you think those pathways were built? Why do you think the Parks deparment ios seeking professional advice and expertise on how to clear the look-outs?
