Streetlights - More Crime

Home/Personal Safety that works!

HOME - Actually nothing new here!

BUT worth a revue:

1) Lock windows and doors.
2) Leave on a few variable timed interior lights if you leave town.
3) Do not stop mail or paper - Instead have a trusted neighbor pick up your mail and paper when you leave town.
4) Obviously do not leave your garage door open all the time.
5) Install motion lights front and back - and decide when you want them on.
6) Never open door until you know whom it is. Walk to far end of picture window (away from door) if you have one, and you will get a good view of area in front of door.
7) If your car?’s keychain opener has a panic button to set off alarm (and most do) ?– keep it near you in your home, and set it off if there is suspicious behavior in your yard or driveway.

PERSONAL (wherever you may be)
8) Get small key chain attached OC spray (and get one w/ practice inserts, like ''Spitfire'', ''ASP'', ''FoxLabs'' etc.
Practice and ?“carry it in hand?” when you are walking in parking lots or really anytime!

9) Keep car doors locked while driving.

10) As people approach you, ALWAYS watch their HANDS! Words or other body movements are used to distract. Their hands - that is where the danger will come from -. Watch for accomplices, be ready to run, spray, or use other force if necessary.

11) Never let anyone get close to you, such as panhandlers, etc. Speak to then with a ''Command Presence'' and tell them to STOP - that your hearing is fine, and do NOT come any closer. If they advance you may be close to being attacked.

12) This may be unpopular to some but KY has a great CCDW law. First, get trained and - Get your license, then get a handgun ?– and practice, practice.
A really old joke makes good sense: ''Until you are strong enough to carry a cop around with you - you may want to carry a gun''. (But OC Spray at a minimum)

There?’s much more such as home ?“safe-room?” construction, and passive things like planting large cactus in front of windows ?– BUT,

#1 - #11 (and #12 in my opinion) is all you need. Basics that will take care of 95% of your vulnerability.
LMPD Will Attend Feb 10th

I have just received confirmation from Major Watkins and Officer Duke that one, or both of them will attend our next meeting on Feb. 10th. The time has changed to 4:30-6:30pm, due to changes at the Central Govt. Center.
