You are invited to attend a public hearing to discuss the proposed development on the Stallings property across Herr Lane from Ballard High School.

The Metro Planning Commission has approved a public hearing for the 19-acre development, named Providence Point, on May 17, 6:00 p.m., at Thomas Jefferson Unitarian Church.

The structure for this public hearing will be this way: the staff presents their reaction to the development plan; the developers have one hour to present the plan; the opponents have one hour to voice their concerns; the developer has 15 minutes for rebuttal.

I encourage residents of nearby neighborhoods who are concerned about this development to attend this meeting to show support for those who are concerned about the impact of this development on existing neighborhoods.

The development is FIVE times larger than the one we opposed several years ago. Though Providence Point has some good aspects, its height, density, and impact on local traffic are genuine concerns.

Providence Point is planned to have 724,000 square feet of condominiums (312 units), offices, retail stores, and restaurants.

The developer plans to widen Herr Lane from Highway 22 to the southern edge of the development. They want to put a stop light at the Ballard entrance.

The condo buildings will be three stories high, with partial underground parking. The 45-foot-high condos will be built just off the sidewalks and right next to the boundary lines of the property.

We would welcome your support as we try to convince the Planning Commission on the evening of May 17 that a more scaled-back development is in the best interests of the area.
