Drivers need to be careful

Posted in: Graymoor-Devondale
I just returned from walking my dogs through our neighborhood, and I am still upset.

Since we have no sidewalks, that leaves us walking on the street. There was no other traffic except for one approaching car. My dogs and I hugged the left side of the road, but still this driver never budged an inch to give us a little leeway. Had either of my dogs veered the least bit, they would have been hit and killed, not to mention my own danger in attempting to share the street with this driver.

We could use an article in the newsletter to remind all drivers of the need for courtesy toward pedestrians as well as cyclers.

We should be able to enjoy our neighborhoods, not fear the traffic.

Thank you.

Newsletter article on safety

Look for such an article in the October 2003 issue of the Graymoor-Devondale News.

It will also help if you can identify habitual speeders (kind of car, license number, time of day, etc.) and let the Graymoor-Devondale police know about the problem.

Unfortunately, there's not much our officers can do unless they witness the offence. But, they can monitor a street at a given time of the day for regular patterns of abuse ... and they can visit the habitual offender's home and have a conversation with him/her.

Give the police a chance to help you. That's their job and their commitment to all city residents.
