SEX OFFENDERS

THE VICTIMS ARE NOT ALWAYS CHILDREN.
THERE IS A FORMER U OF K BASKETBALL PLAYER IN PRISON FOR LIFE FOR HIS
CRIMES AND CHILDREN WERE NOT INVOLVED.
WHY NOT PUT SIGNS IN EVERYONE'S YARD MARKING, HABITUAL SPEEDER, CRAZY PERSON
WATCH OUT IF THEY DON'T TAKE THEIR MEDICATION, ETC. I BELIEVE TO LIST THE
REGISTRANTS IN THE NEWSLETTER WOULD CLEARLY BE HARASSMENT AND A CRIME AS IT
IS ILLEGAL TO HARASS SOMEONE YOU FIND
ON THE REGISTRY. SOMETHING LIKE IT IS
ILLEGAL TO USE THE INFORMATION FOUND THERE TO HARASS.
SEX OFFENDERS

AT PRESENT BETWEEN 40207 AND 40222, THERE ARE 12 PEOPLE LISTED ON THE REGISTRY. THE REGISTRANTS ARE EVERYWHERE AND AT LEAST A LIST OF THEM
IS AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC. THERE ARE
MANY OTHER CRIMES THAT CAUSE A DANGER
TO THE COMMUNITY AND IT'S PEOPLE AND THERE IS NO LIST THAT I KNOW OF OF THESE
PEOPLE. SURELY JCPS AND THE CATHOLIC
SCHOOL SYSTEM ARE AWARE OF THE REGISTRY BUT THEY DON'T KNOW WHERE THE CRAZY AND
MURDERERS LIVE AND THERE WERE MANY SEXUAL CRIMES COMMITTED BEFORE THE REGISTRY BEGAN OR FOR SOME REASON UNKNOWN TO ME DO NOT QUALIFY FOR THE
REGISTRY. UNFORTUNATELY, WE LIVE IN A TIME THAT THERE IS DANGER FROM PEOPLE AND PLACES EVERYWHERE AROUND US. I WOULDN'T WANT A CRAZY PERSON OR MURDERER LIVING NEXT DOOR EITHER.
Our Children Are Our Business

To the last poster...

According to the kspsor.state.ky.us website, the information obtained from the website is considered to be a matter of public record and can be disseminated to anyone without fear of civil penalities (KRS 17.580). It cannot, however, be used to ''harrass'' a registered sex offender (see KRS 525.070 and KRS 525.080). Also, in the FAQ section of the same website, it states that as much info. is listed there that is allowed by law. However, our Court Clerks should have records, open to the public, if more info. is needed.
Yes, it indeed would be silly to post signs in everyone's front yard espousing ''Dusty furniture here'' or ''Can't Cook Here.'' But make no mistake, we're talking about registered sex offenders, many with crimes committed against children under 12. The biggest mistake you could make would be not to protect your children or to deny someone else the right to protect theirs.

The system is in place to be used,
so use it within the parameters of the law.

Sex Offender Registry

I too am a concerned parent and I agree our children need protection but the whole point I was trying to make is children need protection against so many things and people to concentrate on this one issue as the do all and end all is living in denial. I can read for myself thank you but I still feel to publish names in the newsletter puts the city in line for a harassment suit. When the S O R has been discussed on TV and in the papers, they did not name names - don't you think they wanted
to avoid a harassment suit was maybe a part of the reason? Unfortunatly, today there is danger on every corner for our youth. Teach your children not talk to strangers, scream and run like the dickens when they feel ANY danger from ANY source. Being a parent is a great responsibility and I know this issue is one of great concern but pointing fingers solves nothing. My children are grown, but soon, I expect I will be experiencing the parenting responsibilities all over again through grandchildren. If I was of childbearing age I would chose negative population growth - the world is not a safe place for anyone, especially the children. Now where is that list of people on drugs, alcohol and any other mind altering sources? There is no list
available that I know of and the S O R
is a major step forward for one group of people - there just are so many other groups who present danger.
