There was an incident in the 8th Division that indicated the Irish Travelers may be operating in the Metro area. (Report # 06-01-011003)

On 04-10-06 an elderly man in the Foxboro Subdivision (Dorsey Way) was approached by a subject using the name of Billy B. Below representing AJ Paving and was solicited to have his driveway repaired. The next day 5-6 workers showed up without the proper equipment to do the job.

The homeowner thought he might be getting scammed and told the workers he was calling the police. The workers left hurriedly before police could arrive to identify them. The homeowner stated the men spoke in thick Irish accents and he felt very intimidated.

The suspects were described as 5 white males between the ages of 17 and 70 with no distinctive physical features. They spoke to each other in what sounded like a Gaelic dialect. They were driving a 2000 model Ford 4x4 pickup, a 1970s model grey dump truck with ''Cumberland'' on the side, and a 1980s model converted van sized school bus.

According to the Better Business Bureau the company is not a member of the BBB as it advertises in a pamphlet. As of 04-17-06, there were no complaints against AJ Paving other than one for falsely advertising an affiliation with the BBB.

The pamphlet also contains a license # which appears to be bogus. According to I.P.L., the company is not licensed in Louisville. The company has also not run any ads with the Courier Journal as it had claimed.

The company has rented office space at 8031 New LaGrange Road but according to the landlord they never use the office but only stop by to pick up the mail.
