I have yet to hear exactly how Strathmoor Village was legally able to merge without the citizens being able to vote on the issue.

I know this was something that was done by a past regime, but have been wondering just exactly how did this all take place?

As I recall, when I moved to SV, the area between Winston to Tyler was another 6th class city and SV was totally separate from them.

Was this merger even legal? What did the original people in SV have to gain by this taking place?

I do not recall my taxes going down after this merger took place, so what were the economies that may have been purported to existed to take place if this merger was done for this reason?

You raise interesting questions. When did this happen? I suppose we could go back to the SV council minutes to find out what they thought the advantages would be.

It would be interesting to know and see if any of the predictions happened.

Speaking of taxes, does anyone know how much we save or lose by being SV city rather than SV a neighborhood?

the election was on the 1991 ballot. Funny, but I don't remember it being that long ago that the 2 were merged, nor do I remember it ever being on the ballot, either. Back in those days, I am sure I voted every election, so must have missed it somehow.

As to the savings, you can bet one thing, if you did an audit, there is NO savings in being a 6th class city over going ahead an anteing up to Metro and just go ahead and give up on the 6th class city. We don't have any advantages over the ''Metro'' that I can see. The streets have not been repaved since 1987 or 88, sanitation pickup is about the same, forget our ''police force'' (and associated costs of lawsuits, etc.), cost of fire protection, etc.

When the City of SV was founded, I feel certain there was a NEED for it, however, like a horse and buggy, the time has come to admit there is no longer a need for it. I am certainly no fan of the ''Mtero'' government, but we already pay for it, so why not get the services that we pay for and get on without worrying about who is going to be ''running'' this city and how it is run.
