Winding down after the hottest July in Sacramento History, MENA is preparing our volunteer efforts for the annual Parkway Clean Up Day, facilitated by the American River Parkway Foundation. Last year MENA was proud to be the only neighborhood association in Sacramento to be a sponsor of this critical event for our river?’s health. More than 1,000 bags of debris were removed, a feat the county could never consider funding the manpower to accomplish. Besides the critical task of protecting the quality of this waterway, the Parkway Clean-Up Day is an excellent way for neighbors to meet one another and work side by side. MENA plans to continue our support of this event and hopes to see you along the river Sept. 20th. Hours are 9-12 noon. Details of volunteer checkpoints will be posted soon on our website, www.eastsac.org. Make sure to note itthe day on your calendar and all volunteers will get a free t-shirt!
In yet another example of the seemingly endless quality of the neighbors in East Sacramento, MENA was recently asked to participate in the funding of a new flagpole at the entrance to the library at the Clunie Clubhouse. Our excitement to participate changed to admiration when we learned that East Sac resident George Koufasimas volunteered to fund the entire project as an honor to his families long standing ties to the community. Thank you George.
In supporting our neighborhood parks, MENA recently purchased a years supply of nets for the basketball courts at McKinley Park. Randy Will, our parks supervisor asked if MENA could help simplify his task of going through an extended purchase order process and we were happy to help. Another way your MENA membership makes a difference.
A special thanks to Council Member Steve Cohn?’s office for putting on another fantastic series of Pops in the Park concerts.
