McKinley East Sacramento Neighborhood Association (MENA)

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM MENA PRESIDENT

Jan 15, 2004

At this point in the year, most people feel renewed, charged, and optimistic about the year ahead, at least I do.

MENA board members are excited about taking last year?’s achievements and caring that momentum to even greater heights. With neighborhood support, MENA was able to dedicate $8000 seed money to establish an account dedicated to paying for lights encircling the McKinley Park jogging track and $1000 to the Friends of the Library.

Another HUGE task for MENA is engaging members, and supporting people in their efforts to solve neighborhood issues. The MENA board has seen many neighborhood issues solved in its 10-year history. Your neighborhood group is an outstanding tool for you and your neighbors to improve your street. If you have issues on your street, contact us at our main e-mail.

Speaking of improving the neighborhood, I think special recognition should go out for ?“best little thing of the year?” award. Marty Hanneman, in the City Traffic Department, implemented the simple step of moving the stop line a few feet back from the cross walk.
This little step does so much for an intersections safety and ease of passage, that it really makes a difference. Good thinking.

Finally, a special thank you to Kerry Phillips, a long-term board member who is stepping back from his secretary role. Kerry is undoubtedly one of the most knowledgeable, studied, and articulate historians I have every met. His lessons on architecture and East Sacramento history will greatly missed. He intends to focus greater attention on his history studies, and your friends from MENA will always back your efforts.
Thank you Kerry.
