MCKINLEY PARK MASTER PLAN — LIGHTS FOR THE PARK!

At the Nov. 5 public meeting on the McKinley Park Improvement Plan participants ranked 8 park projects proposed by the City Department of Parks and Recreation. Following a presentation on the Improvement Plan?’s projects by Councilman Steve Cohn and Project Manager Tin-Wah Wong, and good discussion of all of them, the group decided that the installation of lights along the McKinley Boulevard and Alhambra sides of the Park should be the first priority.

Swimming pool improvements were ranked as the second priority, including the construction of a Restroom/Concession building adjacent to the swimming pool, the addition of a seatwall in the pool area, and further study of a turf area surrounding the pool. Third and fourth priorities were the conversion of the existing restroom building behind the tennis courts into a storage shed and upgrading of lighting in the nearby picnic area.

The group gave low priority to a proposed concrete walkway connecting the rose garden to the Clunie complex and voted to use Landscape and Lighting Maintenance Funds to repair the Tennis court bleachers and replace the benches inside the courts.

Better lighting around and in McKinley Park has been a priority for MENA since its formation. By vote of the Board at its October meeting, MENA has ?“put its money where its mouth is?” by setting-aside $8,000.00 toward installation of the perimeter lighting for McKinley Park.
