The proposal to expand the Cannery Business Park has been withdrawn. As submitted to the City in April 2002, the proposal included the addition of a fourth building on the 26-acre site running seven blocks along the north side of C Street from 33rd to Tivoli. The proposed new three story, 207,900 square foot office building was to be located adjacent to nine existing buildings on the developed 12 acres of the property. The new building was to be 54 feet tall and would have increased the Office Park?’s total floor space by approximately 54%.
MENA members participated in a public meeting to solicit input on the proposal held at the Clunie Center in early November. MENA?’s Land Use Committee, with the help of Ian McCarty who lives on C St, then followed-up with a formal letter to the City request that it pay particular attention of the proposal?’s impact on neighborhood transportation circulation and air quality. The letter also called for consideration of alternative development schemes for the site such as housing.
The expansion proposal was withdrawn shortly after MENA?’s letter was submitted. MENA?’s Land Use Committee submitted comparable letters to the City in June 1997 and August 1989 on previous Cannery Park expansion proposals and will continue to monitor development proposals for this site.
