McKinley Park Playground – 10th Birthday Party

My name is Alex Hastings and I am organizing a 10th Birthday Party for the community built McKinley Park playground as my Eagle Scout Project. I am 14 and a member of Boy Scout Troop 1. I will be asking members of my troop to help out with the event.



The birthday party will have an Old-fashioned Picnic theme and start with a morning of work by volunteers to repair the playground from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.



The party starts at noon with games for kids including the 3-legged race, sack races, and more. At 1 p.m. we?’ll sing Happy Birthday and cut a giant Birthday cake for the kids!



There will be great food with the Kiwanis Club selling pizza and hot dogs, The Family Room selling more upscale eats, and ice cream from Burr?’s. I will be organizing my fellow Boys Scouts to sell water and soda.



We are planning on recognizing the original workers who attend with a special gift. Plus Lisa Schmidt is organizing essay contest for children on why they love the playground.

In 1994 MENA raised nearly $30,000 for the playground and recruited hundreds of volunteers for building this fantastic playground.
