MENA has established a committee to study the issue of auxiliary buildings in our neighborhood.
Anyone who has undergone a remodel job or a room addition can attest that East Sac's small lots pose building challenges. Besides being limited by the size of your parcel, city ordinances govern setbacks, lot coverage and height restrictions, which can constrict a neighbor's plans. Often zoning and building variances have to be obtained to accommodate a desired architectural design.
Board Member Kerry Phillips is the chair of the special MENA Committee. He is a founding member of the Sacramento Bungalow Heritage Association and a noted expert in local architectural history.
The committee's charter is not to just study the issue of garages but the entire issue of auxiliary buildings -- that could include children's playhouses, pool cabanas, garden sheds, etc.
Do you have thoughts on this issue to share with the committee? Please email or write your suggestions, questions, thoughts to MENA or drop them in our suggestion box when you come visit us at East Sacramento Day.
