Collinswoods Principal Is Working on Traffic Mess

Posted in: Madison Park

Evening traffic is a total mess this year on Londonderry and even out into Tyvola blocking one lane both directions.     Apparently there are hundreds of parents picking up students this year.  Way more than ever before.    They need to redirect the traffic line up down Chedworth off Londonderry so that our residents have safe passage and alternatives around the mess.    They are even looking at having one grade line up from Tyvola at back entrance to the school.    The drivers have been asked to not block driveways which is a problem for anyone on the even side of Londonderry trying to get out during the line up.  Cars are going up and down the only open lane often ending up in a face off.   Yesterday a giant dump truck came through Chedworth and another car was coming down the wrong side of the road.    That car was able to squeeze in where an open driveway was located, but not without having a horn blown at them for fear they were cutting lines.   If CMS and CMPD do not get a grip on this evening traffic someone is going to be injured in a traffic accident.   The reason there is no traffic lights along Tyvola other than Wedgewood is there is NO Turn lanes.   Cars lining up on Tyvola and trying to funnel into Londonderry is a Major accident waiting to happen.   The good news is the line moves really quickly when they start letting the children out.

I saw my 3rd school bus running stop signs in the neighborhood this am.  Report them to CMS transportation.    Last year end of season I thought we had one bus running stops.   They did it every day.  It turned out to be two buses.   They did correct after being reported.

Police blocked of Londonderry at Tyvola today and redirected traffic down to Chedworth to line up.    Line up will be Kentland to Londonderry to Chedworth.  That should hold most of the added traffic from new students and pickups.   Principal also has one grade picking up on the back drive coming off Tyvola.

Hopefully it will be much smoother once everyone gets the routine down.

We had cars and 1 truck driving through front yards on Londonderry even today with all this added attention.

Parents will be getting directions on how to line up from school and police will work to ensure they follow the directions.

Seacroft should remain open both sides of Chedworth.    Londonderry will eventually be open from Tvyola to Chedworth.   That will give residents options to detour over to Seacroft to get around the mess.   It last about 40 minutes with line ups reaching Chedworth by 3:50 PM.

We have had issues since Collinswood opened, but NEVER this bad.   Tyvola had two lanes completely blocked with cars lined up before today.   Both lanes were waiting to get on Londonderry which was totally blocked up.

Thanks to Principal Modine, CMS Police officer Bourque, Office Phan CMPD for their attention to this matter.

Perfect scenario would be for the old Smith Family Center to come down and marked parking for parents to line up replace the space.   That is not going to happen anytime soon if EVER.    When Pinewood was torn down years ago it was around 450K.

If the line stays on one side of Chedworth it will allow residents to get around the lineup with slight detours.

Londonderry also has added CMS school buses going up and down during this messs.

The drivers have and are being told to NOT block any driveways while lining up.
