The Facts On Garbage Preparation
Improperly prepared garbage is creating problems around the City. Solid Waste Services has specific guidelines for proper item preparation. These guidelines ensure that garbage is collected each week and neighborhoods are free from litter. Proper preparation also prevents property damage.
A few basic rules to follow when preparing garbage, recyclables, yard waste and bulky items for collection include:
Place the roll out cart more than 3 feet away from other items, and at least 2 feet from the curb
Cut, not fold, cardboard into 3 feet x 3 feet sections and place at curb for collection with recycling
Make sure yard waste piles are small enough for one person to pick up, and that limbs aren't longer than 5 feet in length and 4 inches in diameter.
