Officer Hairston e-mailed this am to say he handled a 911 call on Fairbanks for a male selling magazines on 4/7/09. He found the person and told them to leave the area. He states that residents should give to a charity and not give these people coming to your door money.

I had two young guys call at my house on Wentworth on Tuesday night during the rainstorm who also were selling the books. They told me they went to NC State and lived in the neighborhood on the street around the corner in the house with green shutters. They told me it was their grandparents house, their grandfather had recently pasted and their parents were updating the house. I felt sorry for them that they were out in the rain selling these books so I helped them out by purchasing two books and writing a check made out to Prestige USA; they had a NC sales tax privelege licence made out to Prestige USA....I just put a stop payment on the check. I did not know this was a scam until I read the post. They even told me the other neighbors who had helped them out .... I will call them and tell them to put a stop payment on their checks as well. |

I believe that same young woman came to our house on Farmbrook this week, said she lived down the street and that our neighbors told her we were nice. Yeah right. So, her story was that she was going on a trip for school, her trip was paid for but she was trying to raise money for other's who did not have the funds. When I politely declined she became snippy and asked me if I had ever had to sell things door to door. At that point I said good bye. Not 20 minutes later I saw her on Wedgewood speaking to police officer(s). Young, late teens or early twenties, long brown hair, average build. A few days earlier, young man, very thin and tall with his upper chest/lower neck tatooed also came by claiming to sell magazine subscriptions. Had other things on my mind and didn't think to check here or even post, glad others have. |
