Door-to-Door sales scam

Posted in: Madison Park

I watched the ABC news tonight and saw that they put my email on about the scam in Madison Park for all watching to see. I certainly hope that this will keep someone else from falling for this scam.

I have mixed emotions about this experience....I'm glad that my eyes have been opened to the fact that criminals come in all shapes and sizes but it saddens me to know that to some...this is a way of life.

Thanks for alerting the community just1spirit.   Your post most likely saved others in our community from becoming victims.  WSOC actually was trying to reach you...but made contact with another resident that appeared in the story that had been approached the day after your post. He had Identified himself.

Headquarters of neighborhood link sent you a message yesterday ...since they are the only people that know who a registered user name belongs to...they were providing you a contact for WSOC in case you were willing to speak to WSOC.    If you have not seen the contact you can choose to ignore it now.

Thanks again for posting.  This was perfect use of the discussion pages

In the future if anyone posting something that involves fraud in our community deosn't  mind revealing yourself to the neighborhood associations President for possible follow up it could be helpful.  You can do so by sending your info to madisonparkhoa@hotmail.com.   If you choose not to do this that is fine.  It just helps when media perhaps is wanting to help us get the word out, or CMPD desires to follow up on something posted.    That said either way is always the posters choice.  The important thing is to post things like this that helps warns others.

There must be a whole group of young people doing this because I was taken by this same scam this past weekend.  A young man selling magazines said he lived on Senaca & was raising money for a trip abroad with his club soccer team.  He said he had to go door-to-door to improve his communications skills - speak clearly, make eye contact, etc.  I told him I wasn't able to help him.  Then he said I could have the magazines sent to the troops & 1 of my neighbors had done that.  I told him I still wasn't interested & he asked for a cash donation.  So I gave him $10 & told him good luck.

I stupidly had not checked my e-mail or I would have known about this scam.
