Lamont &.Longwood Connection being studied

Posted in: Madison Park

Article in today's paper says Lamont/Longwood is being studied for possibly future connection.  http://www.charlotteobserver.com/topstories/story/1123268.html?pageNum=2&mi_pluck_action=page_nav#Comments_Container

Traffic would probably be about the same since you can already get to Bradbury and cross over to the other side just up the street.   I must wonder about increased flooding if another bridge is installed in this flood plain.   Those residents already have enough problems with flooding as it is East of the Bradbury bridge.

I don't think we can sit back and let them encourage more traffic to cut through our neighborhood.  Madison Park is already a major cut through from Tyvola, Park Rd, and South Blvd, via Wedgewood, Murrayhill, Longwood/Bradbury, Montford, and Lamont.  Opening up another connection from Lamont to Longwood is creating a thoroughfare through our neighborhood, and will negatively affect home values.  Our avg sales price has already decreased 12% since 2007, we need to do all we can to help these values improve with the economy, and increasing the traffic will only hinder us.

Yes the last time I heard about this was a couple of years ago.  I say last time it was the first time. CDOT got back with me and said it possibly would be connected for bike connectivity.

The HOA had it mentioned by Matt who is mentioned in the article back in 2008.  True another  another connection over to that side of the neighborhood might be nice for some drivers, but we already have a connection slightly up the street.  The neighborhood has existed for years without this need for a second cut through even when it was really needed and the bridge was out for replacement.

It would certainly increase the traffic on your little street.  I am guessing for those of us that live South of Seneca Place looking to avoid traffic lights on Park Road.

I am not sure how much a chance this could move forward. The reason I say this is I have attended the flood meetings as recent as last fall that both the County and City Storm water services held for those in the flood plain.   The County Storm Water services - which is the section that a new bridge would fall under is so strict that over on Montford Drive a culvert floods and the Storm Water services told the residents they can't just come in and widen that culvert because it is in the flood plain.   The residents felt that if it was enlarged it will ease flooding on their side of the road.

This flood plain might be the saving grace to keep this from ever happening since there are strict guides now on building in flood plains.  The fema flood plain maps are currently being updated/revised and could possibly even expand the current flood plain.

This possible connection was posted by me on the discussion page in the past somewhere.  I think I recall posting the actual feedback that came from CDOT to me at the time.  I will take a glance back and see if I can find it!

That was my thought also, that the flood plain may be the saving grace.  I'll do what I can to prevent any more cut through traffic on our street;  I know it would save other neighbors an additional 30 seconds but we've got too much traffic as is in the neighborhood.
