Present: Karen Havird - Canal North Neighborhood Association

SHARING RALLY REPORT AND LEADERSHIP COACHING SESSION:
180 community leaders attended the NPI Sharing Rally on January 21st and the Sharing Rally Booklet will be mailed out in a couple of weeks. Gus Newport, former mayor of Berkley was the keynote speaker, and he will be the featured speaker at the next Leadership Coaching Session on April 12th from 11am to 1pm at the Longview Rec. Center. Bart Turner spoke to the group about the Citizen's Independent Redistricting Commission Initiative. They are currently collecting signatures on a petition to change the way legislative district boundaries are drawn. This will be on the November ballot. Randy will have a petition at the MPNCA booth at the Safety Carnival, and will collect signatures.

LONGVIEW NEIGHBORHOOD COMMUNITY ALLIANCE:
Curt Loch has just met with Michelle Mitchell, Principal of Longview Elementary School, and has agreed to be their new partnership facilitator. Longview meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, and Jennifer will begin attending their meetings to share information about our Alliance, in an effort to foster a partnering relationship with them as well as Montecito School.

ARIZONA QUEST FOR KIDS UPDATE:
AQFK is up and running. Mentors have met with the students. Betty Peterson is volunteering as a mentor. Mentor recruitment is an ongoing concern, and the question was raised, should the school and the alliance take some ownership in the recruitment? The following are some vehicles for mentor advertisement and outreach that we discussed: ASU Alunmi Newsletter, Business Gazette, CNNA Newsletter, AZ Republic, City Bulletins, GPL Members. Randy and Ann will work on some form of press release including a mentor profile and list of necessary qualifications. If you are interested in becoming a mentor please contact Randy Mettler at 274-5429 or 664-7553.

SAFETY CARNIVAL:
Karen handed out flyers, and brought enough to attach to the school bulletins. Scheduled date is March 4, 2000 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at Madison Park School (1431 E Campbell). We will meet at the school at 8:30 am to begin set up. Karen will contact Sue Goltz tomorrow to confirm the Student Council is going to take on the lunch as a fundraiser. Camelback High School has asked to have a booth to present services and opportunities at the High School. MiMi offered to have a table for the Century Branch Library to issue library cards. The photo ID guy wants to set up early because he may have a spot with Channel 3. This would be a great opportunity for some TV coverage for the Carnival. Getting a commitment from vendors to participate has been a challenge. Please contact Karen Havird if you have an interest in having a table or a booth. (274-9764)

NEIGHBORHOODS THAT WORK APPLICATION:
Randy is still working on the application, and will have it completed in time for the deadline. CNNA is also applying.

MULTICULTURAL FESTIVAL:
Century Branch Library at 1750 E Highland is holding their 2nd Annual Multicultural Festival on Saturday April 1st from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. This years festival promises to be as entertaining and well received as last year. Some of the featured "fun" will be music and dancing by Native American, Royal Scottish Country Dance, Cloggers, African Drum Ensemble, Polynesian Hula Dance, face painting, ice cream sundaes by Marble Slab, free prizes and refreshments. MiMi has posters and flyers available, and we will all be helping distribute and display them.

MAILING OF MINUTES:
Jennifer will fax the minutes to Karen next Tuesday, and she will take care of the postage this time. Jennifer will create a mailing label merge, and e-mail it to Randy for future mailings.
