American flag flying again in East Magnolia Park.  It took a bit of coordinating and it’s good to see it – it inhabits our park with a great presence.  Many in Magnolia have a military background and/or family – like June Griffith who’s stepmom was glad for it’s return (June purchased the flag at a garage sale).  Déjà vu for Dale Hebbard (bought the rope and all the attachments) who back in 1972 was featured in a Southfield News & Observer article because he arranged for a flag to fly on that huge empty pole – much to the mystery and surprise of the neighbors.  He worked for Chrysler and was able to get their used flags at no cost.  Then he arranged for the Fire Dept to hoist the rope and it flapped in the breeze for a long while.  Thanks to Peg Collins for the coordination and Keith Williams for connecting with Parks & Recreation Dept who came out to hoist the rope.   Check out the 18 pictures of the rope being hoisted and Dale and his grand daughter hoisting the flag.
