Manhattan Plaza Tenants Association

At the 3/12 Meeting

Apr 16, 2001

The focus of the meeting was centered around updates on several issues including the new rent payment procedures instituted recently by MP Management. Councilmember Christine Quinn?’s letter to Management was read and there was a discussion of the documentation required for married couples and domestic partners.
In a conversation with Management prior to the 3/12 meeting the MPTA was advised that these new policies were not intended to discriminate against any group and that the single check situation was precipitated by problems with bounced checks issued by apartments paying the rent with multiple checks. The MPTA has been advised that those previously paying with multiple checks and now having problems with the new single rent check payment policy can take their rent bill and checks to Citibank to receive a free money order so rents can then be paid with a single money order to help alleviate the problems with this new policy.
Since the 3/12 meeting the MPTA has received a copy of Management?’s response to Councilmember Quinn and that letter will be read at the 4/9 MPTA meeting.
Other updates included the MP statistics from the HUD database and information about the ?“lift?” between the ?“Terrace?” and the 9th Avenue building.
Members brought up several issues for discussion:
The problem of dogs having ?“accidents?” within the building, elevators, etc. was discussed. It was agreed that this is an extremely unpleasant circumstance and the MPTA asks that if your dog has an ?“accident?” within the building, et al, please clean it up. Also, curb your dog. Do not allow them to use the side of the building, trees, planters or furniture. Remember we all live here and respect for our home should be important to all of us. We all love our dogs, but that doesn?’t mean we should allow them to violate our home. And please don?’t forget to pick up after your dog.

The pervasiveness of menus at our apartment doors was another issue of concern to the members. It was suggested that whenever anyone calls for food delivery please ask the restaurant not to allow their delivery person to leave menus at our apartment doors.
Last, but certainly not least, was the vandalism observed on the 42nd floor of the 484 building.
The MPTA has recently been advised that there has been graffiti seen in the halls and stairwells as well as urination found in the stairwells. The MPTA is extremely concerned about this new manifestation of disrespect and the disregard for where we live. The MPTA urges anyone sighting any of these situations to contact Management immediately and report the perpetrators if possible. It?’s all of our responsibility to keep MP in the condition we all expect.
