This message from the City:

"The prosecutor’s office successfully prosecuted the cat theft case(City of Mesa v.
Scott Graham Docket #2012073239).

This is the case that started as animal cruelty (felony), but due to a lack of evidence was filed as theft (of the cat) by the Mesa City Prosecutor’s Office.  After an all-day bench trial the judge found the defendant guilty of Theft, a class 1 misdemeanor.

Sentencing is set for August 14th.  The range of penalties for theft, a class 1 misdemeanor include 6 months jail, $2,500 fine (plus surcharges), restitution, and up to 3 years probation.   Channels 3 and 15 are interviewing the victims."

It wasn't exactly a "lack of evidence" that led to the animal cruelty charges being dropped against Scott Graham.  It was a failure to properly investigate, collect, and analyze evidence on the part of the "Animal Control" unit of the city of Mesa.  This unit is headed up by Diane Brady, and her supervisee that was supposed to be investigating the Scott Graham case is Nick Cureton.  Cureton stated to the Police that the owners of the cat that was snatched, on video, by Scott Graham, could not be identified by the owners.  The owners have -- repeatedly -- stated that they could ID the cat's body.  This is what led to the cruelty charges being dropped:  a lie on the part of a city employee.  If you have had ANY problems with Animal Control, Diane Brady, Nick Cureton, or any other employee of the Mesa Animal Control, I URGE you to contact the Mesa City Council and the Mayor's Office.

I want to Thank you all involded for your persistence in this case, I do believe it was all of you that made a difference. Although it will not bring back our loved pets, I do feel some closure.

I do agree with Annalisa, neglect on the part of Mesa DP and Mesa Animal Control with all the evidence collected that was not properly pursued by both agencies.

I hope this bring to everyone attention that animal cruelty is out there and to please report any suspicious activity. I do hope they obtain and prosecute the person or person's involved in the Queen Creek shooting on animals. I do have family that live close to one of the shooting and do not want them to go through what I have been through knowing your pet was taken by a human being... CC

Man suspected in Mesa cat thefts found guilty of stealing 1 feline

http://www.azfamily.com/news/Man-suspected-in-Mesa-cat-thefts-found-guilty-of-stealing-1-feline-217128781.html

It is ridiculous that he admitted to taking a cat which was later found dead and mutilated, but he skates on that charge...skates on all of the killings...

So he was found guilty of "stealing one cat" ??

Ridiculous.
